A different kind of bracket

As a regular sports talk radio listener, one of the great ones favorite radio personalities is that of colin cowherd.  He tells it like it is even if he has a big time west coast bias. While everyone and there mother and sometimes grandmother is filling out there ncaa tourney bracket, Colin has spent the last couple of days discussing a different kind of bracket, a cereal bracket. This is no joke fellas this is real as real can get. In the finals we have frosted flakes against honey nut cheerios/cheerios.  In the final 4 frosted flakes beat out lucky charms while cheerios beat out raisin bran. This upset me greatly as two of my all time fav. cerals are lucky charms and raisin bran. Whats your take on the cereal bracket? please comment and give us your feedback. The bracket can be seen on espnradio.com or here

Donte Stallworth Kills a florida man

from the nypost.com

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth hit and killed a pedestrian with his Bentley Saturday morning on a busy causeway linking Miami and Miami Beach, police said.

Stallworth was headed toward the beach when he hit a 49-year-old man around 7 a.m., said Miami Beach police spokesman Juan Sanchez. The unidentified pedestrian was taken to a nearby trauma center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. He was near a crosswalk but it’s not clear if he was crossing legally.

Stallworth, 28, was cooperating and no charges have been filed, Sanchez said. Officers drew blood to test for drugs or alcohol, which is routine, but police said it was too early to tell if Stallworth was impaired or violating traffic laws. Police would not say where he was coming from or where he was headed.

Miami-Dade County property records show he owns two condos in a building on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami not far from the causeway and another condo in a different building in Miami.

A message seeking comment was left on the voicemail of his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns as a free agent before last season but hardly played because he was hurt. He was due a $4.75 million signing bonus Friday.

He previously played for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints in the NFL and the University of Tennessee in college.

Former WWE wrestler found dead

According to the sun-sentinel.com:  Andrew Martin, who wrestled under the name “Test” has been found dead in his tampa area home.

A Tampa television station’s Web site is reporting that Andrew Martin, a professional wrestler who went by the name “Test,” was found dead in his Tampa apartment last night.

Tampa police responded to a call from a concerned neighbor of the former World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler, who had requested a welfare check, according to the Web site. Police do not suspect foul play at this time.

The great one thinks that something needs to be done about these former wrestlers that keep showing up dead.  Why should a guy who was working for a multi billion dollar company have to be requesting a welfare check upon his retirement. Test was probably best known for his “T and A” bit along with the former wwe womans champ Trish Status.

Hulkamania runnin wild

from the palmbeachpost.com and its tvtalk blog:

An attorney for Hulk Hogan’s wife got into a verbal sparring match with the former professional wrestler outside a courtroom and asked if Hogan was going to wrestle him.

The spat started when lawyer Ray Rafool was answering questions about the divorce case for television cameras. He spoke after a hearing Thursday in which a judge granted the release of $225,000 in frozen assets for Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea.

While Rafool spoke to the media, the towering Hogan tried to interject a comment from behind a row of cameras and reporters.

“Are you gonna to wrestle with me here?” Rafool said loudly. “Are you gonna come across the cameras? Then be quiet.”

“It’s a free world,” Hogan replied.

“No, it’s not a free world,” Rafool said. “It’s called professionalism.”

The attorney, who had recently accepted an autograph from Hogan for his son, then delivered a stinging blow to any World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler: “You’re an actor. You’re acting now.”

“I hope your son enjoys the autograph,” Hogan said. “Thank you Hulkamaniac brother.”

Hogan’s attorney joined in and continued arguing with Rafool. The former wrestler, who was on crutches because of recent back surgery, left a few minutes later.

“I guess I get the feeling of what it’s like to be on the WWE now,” he said.

Rafool had cooled off when The Associated Press reached him by phone Friday.

“It got much more heated than I would have preferred,” Rafool said. “Some of it was a little tongue-in-cheek about the wrestling. He was smiling and laughing. I was, too.”

David Houston, Hogan’s attorney, said his client spoke up because, “He felt that every dime they have was being dissipated by virtue of the divorce proceeding.”

Houston said Hogan worries that when all is done, he won’t be able to help John Graziano, a young man who was like family to the Hogans and was seriously injured in a crash caused by Hogan’s son Nick Bollea. Nick Bollea was sentenced last year to eight months in county jail after he pleaded no contest to causing the crash.

Travis Henry re-writes the Shawn Kemp chronicles

A recent report from the New York Times tabs Former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry as the new and improved Shawn Kemp. Henry, 30, owes $170,000 annually in child support for his nine children (ages 3-11) and is currently without an he remains under house arrest due to a pending cocaine trafficking charge. He says he cant afford to keep up with child support payments.

“They’ve got my blood; I’ve got to deal with it,” Henry told the Times. “I love all my kids. I’ve lost everything in this mess I’ve gotten myself into.”

Henry said he didn’t plan the children with one exception, and was informed by some of the mothers that they were on birth control however apparently that wasnt the truth.

“I did use protection at first,” Henry said. “Then they’d be saying they’d be on the pill. I was an idiot to trust them. Second or third time with them, I didn’t use it. Then, boom!”

“My counselor asks me, ‘How can you do the same thing over and over?’ Knock on wood, or something, I’m blessed not to have AIDS. That never crossed my mind.”

Unfortunately, the story is about to get worse for Mr. Henry, according to ESPN’s Outside the Lines’, Henry recently became the father of twin girls, upping his total to 11 children with 10 different women.

You may recall the story of former Seattle Super Sonic center Shawn Kemp story which is eerily similar. As of 1998, Kemp had fathered at least seven children all with different women. This number is alleged to be even higher.

Time to invest in some rubbers Mr. Henry.

Tiger’s first Stroke play since the US open

Tiger Woods has been out of golf for almost 9 months and today marks his first 72 hole tournament on his comeback tour. It is amazing what he has done for golf, its fans, and even for the people who dont watch it very often. I am not an avid golfer, nor do i watch the sport religiously. I only watch when tiger is in the hunt to win on the weekend just like most other people who turn it on. Last year we were treated to some amazing championships all across the sports board. The Super Bowl upset Giants over Pats, The championship game in the NCAA tournament where Mario Chalmers hit the miracle shot to send the game into overtime where the Jayhawks eventually defeated the Memphis Tigers, Federor and Nadal’s epic Wimbledon final, Celtics and the Lakers finally meeting again in the finals. But none was better than when Tiger took on the entire field with a shredded knee for not 4, but 5 rounds of golf. The 18 hole sudden death match on Monday for the US Open title was one to remember.

Tiger

That was out last glimpse of Tiger at the top of his game. How will be be today? Will he come out rusty, or will his surgically repaired knee crush the competition? Whats scary is that he said hes only been working on his short game and its better than it has ever been before. This should strike fear into every other golfer on tour. Golf is relevant again. I havent watched a hole of any tournament on TV, let alone a whole round, since Tiger rode off into the sunset last year. Lets only hope he makes it interesting again.

Tiger tees off today in our backyard at the Doral at 11:25 AM.

Danillo…. The Rooster!!!

This one is for my boy Hambo. Leading up to this years NBA draft the 2 of us looked at various mock drafts to see where our favorite teams were going to try to improve. Im a huge Heat fan and Hambo is a huge Knicks fan. Almost every mock draft had the Knicks taking little known Italian Danillo Gallinari. We tried to find videos of his game but it was few and far between. Hambo was hoping they wouldnt take him so that he can get a player he knows already and has seen play. Well on draft night the Knicks do the inevitable and take Danillo. The best part is we learn his nickname is the Rooster!

What could be a better nickname than the Rooster? Ive always wondered why he was given that name… Well the other night we were given a reason…

REPORT: UFL TO CHASE VICK

According Profootballtalk.com the UFL REEEAALLLY wants Michael (dont call me Mike) Vick.

The only potential impediment would come from a decision by the Falcons, if they don’t release him, to invoke the language in his contract preventing him from playing in any other league while on suspension.

But assuming the Falcons don’t cut Vick, perhaps they’d be able to conjure a trade market for 2010 by letting Vick run circles around the slappies that will be populating the UFL.

Then again, Michael Vick playing in the UFL would give the league even more “credibility” than the initial slate of head coaches (Ted Cottrell, Jim Fassel, Dennis Green, Jim Haslett), each will be paid $500,000 each per year.

Personally, I dont see this league having any more success than the XFL. theres just so little leftover talent out there I do not know how they could survive.

It will be like an episode of back to the future:

Related Note: Vick’s Atlanta home was “auctioned” today. and by auctioned I mean only 2 people showed up and neither had the $160,000 payment necessary to demonstrate legitmacy. Officials had set the minimum bid at $3.2 million so the federal bankruptcy court will have to determine the next step in the plan for turning the property into cash that can be used to pay off Vick’s bills.

Does not sound like Vick would require much money, just the opportunity to work again would be nice for him. Those dogs he abused are really biting him back in the you know where arent they!!

Be Careful What You Post On Facebook!!

Per ESPN.com, after a stadium operations worker added a Facebook post criticizing his employer, he lost his job, according to a story in Monday’s Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dan Leone, who according to the Inquirer worked as a west gate chief, was unhappy the team let Brian Dawkins sign with the Denver Broncos and posted the following on his Facebook page:

“Dan is [expletive] devastated about Dawkins signing with Denver … Dam Eagles R Retarted!!”

Despite deleting the comment, Leone told the Inquirer the Eagles fired him by phone days later.

Leone later apologized for the remark and said that he let his emotions go but was shocked that he lost his job after six years of service.

“I apologized for it,” Leone said, according to the paper. “I apologized 20 million times. I never bad-mouthed the organization before. I made one mistake and they terminate me? And they couldn’t even bring me into the office to talk to me? They had to do it over the phone? At least look me in the eye. To get done dirty like this, I can’t believe it. I’m devastated.”

The Eagles confirmed that Leone was a part-time staff member, but didn’t comment further.

Personally, I do not know the man but you would think the Eagles would have a little bit more compassion considering the climate of the current job rate situation…however AGAIN i do not know the guy so I don’t know what type of worker he really is.

With that all said…BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WRITE ON THE NET!!!!

Selig: “Baseball is clean and I’m proud”

As those ugly rubber shoes tagline goes…WHAT A CROC! The man that is now taking credit for cleaning up the game only after the congressional hearings that pointed out how Selig himself and his cronies turned their back on steroid use for so long that it actually allowed it to grow to the level that was unthinkable. If Selig thinks that his name should not go hand in hand with the “Steroid Era” he is out of his damn mind!

PLEASE LORD…Let the Jets sign….

Kyle Boller or JP Loss-Man to take the reigns as the new starting QB of the team. Not to be partial or anything but as a Fins fan, I cannot stand the Jets, and nothing would make me happier than to see them waste millions on all arms and no brains Boller, or a guy like Losman who wows you for a quarter than makes you want to shoot yourself at least 12 times in a game.

Heres Boller:

and heres Losman:

fingers are crossed!

Pro Bowl Back To Hawaii

Pro Bowl is going back to Hawaii. Hopefully they will keep it AFTER the Super Bowl. As much as I look forward to seeing the Pro Bowl next season down here in Miami, it belongs in Hawaii and after the super bowl so no player is penalized because they are good enough to make it to the Super Bowl.

Founder of 1960s Pro Wrassling Company Kills Roommate With Viscious Body Slam

From the news of the weird dept….former wrestling Legend Verne Gagne (now 82 and suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease) apparently body slammed his roommate last night. As a result his roommate, Helmut Gutmann (97 yrs old) who is also suffering from Alzheimers broke his hip and eventually passed away.

Gagne was the founder and owner of the American Wrestling Association and wore its championship belt. In the 1960s and ’70s, his “All-Star Wrestling” was a TV sensation. The show was a modest affair, taped before small audiences at various Minneapolis TV stations. But it was syndicated on up to 120 channels across the Midwest and as far away as San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Winnipeg, Canada.

I am embarrassed to say that I laughed rather hysterically when I was first told of this story but come on, its funny!!

Then I continued to read about the man who passed away as a result of Gagne’s viscous power slam and he was actually a great human being. Helmut Gutmann fled Nazi Germany in 1936, became a U.S. citizen and joined the Army, where he worked to try to develop an antidote for mustard gas, among other projects, according to his family. He spent 40 years as a cancer researcher at a veterans hospital in Minneapolis.

That sort of brought it all back to reality…than I continued reading and kept imagining what that must have looked like (an 82 yr old slamming a 97 yr old).

I know that wrasslin isnt really a “sport” but I thought id share.
