ACC Championship Pregame Show: All Pick Duke

As I prepare to watch the FSU seminoles to take on Duke for the ACC championship in just a few minutes I watched all the anchors of ESPN2 pregame show pick Duke. And I listened to Jay Bilas give one of the dumbest rationale that these “sportscasters” keep using. He said that he believes FSU has all the tools to win this game but Mike Krzyzewski (Duke’s coach) and his experience in big games will power them past the noles.

Now in what world does that make sense? Coach K is not playing in the game…is he? Its the PLAYERS that decide the game…NOT THE COACHES. If one team is more talented than another and has solid coaching and plays sound, a coach should not be the only difference in picking a game.

It certainly remains to be seen if his prediction will hold true, I just find it appalling that ESPN continues the suck fest for the same ol teams.

Duke is not the Duke of the 90s so please stop picking them for the sake of picking them and give FSU a little credit.

FSU Survives

Florida state survived another close game with acc bottom feeder  Gtech and will face likely #1 seed UNC tomorrow at 1:30. Derwin Kitchen scored a basket and made the free throw after being fouled to put fsu up 2 with a little over 7 seconds left. Gtechs last second shot was off allowing FSU to move on to the Acc tourney semifinals.

Aaron Curry – Am I missing something here?

I think I’m missing something here. As a big time college football and ACC fan, I’ve watched plenty of Wake Forrest games in the past few years. The talk of Aaron Curry potentially being the #1 overall draft choice is shocking to me. Dont get me wrong, I am not doubting his ability at the next level, but where did these #1 overall pick talks come from?? I think one could easily argue the fact that Curry wasnt even the best player on that defense (see Alphonso Smith) and not even the best LB in the ACC (see Mark Herzlich). So why are we talking about him as the #1 overall pick? Ive heard that he is the safest pick…I do think he is safer than Stafford and Sanchez. However, is he any safer than a guy like B.J. Raji, Peria Jerry, or Eugene Monroe? Time will tell….

March Madness has already begun

Usually the term March Madness is coined for the NCAA tournament, but there is more madness happening right now that i have my fix by only March 13th. Were still in the first round of some of the major conference tournaments and the big schools are dropping like flies.

As reported yesterday, Kansas fell to Baylor, then Oklahoma falls to Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech upsets Clemson, Villanova knocks off Marquette, West Virginia beats Pittsburgh, and now Syracuse knocks off UCONN in a 6 overtime epic. If you didnt see the game then you need to watch the highlights. It was a very intense and unbelievable game that comes only one every 10 years or so. Syracuse had a great chance at the end of the first half when they passed the ball from end to end right into the hands of Eric Devendorf, who took a buzzer beating shot with only 1 second left and swished it. After further revisew it was found that the ball was still in his hands as the time expired. To the first overtime they went. I have never seen so many shots at the buzzer hit the iron in my life, but after 6 overtimes Syracuse finally prevailed 127-117.

The game lasted 3 hours and 46 minutes and ended at 1:22 AM at Madison Square Garden. The fans in attendance sure got their moneys worth. They saw a great game between 2 long time college basketball powerhouses and no one was disappointed, expect maybe for the UCONN faithful.

I can already tell the tournament this year is going to be better than most of the past. There is no clear cut #1 seeds and it seems anything can happen on any given night. I expect to have some real upsets once the tournament kicks off next Thursday.

For those of us who care, our Seminoles (all of the authors on this site went to FSU) are playing today at 2:30 against Georgia Tech on ESPN2. Georgia Tech upset Clemson in the first round. GO NOLES!!!
